FAQs
Will a water softener actually fit under my kitchen sink?
Most of the modern softeners we stock are designed with standard British kitchens in mind, so they’re surprisingly compact. Most will tuck away neatly inside a cupboard without much fuss. If space is really tight, we’ve got some ultra-slim models that can fit in spots you wouldn’t expect. It’s always worth checking the dimensions on the product page, but generally, you won’t need to sacrifice your entire cupboard to get soft water.
What’s the big difference between electric and non-electric models?
It’s one of the most common questions we get. Non-electric softeners (like the Kinetico or Harvey models) use the pressure of your water to work, so they don’t need a power socket and there are no timers to set. They’re basically "fit and forget." Electric models, on the other hand, often give you more data and can be a bit more efficient with salt, but you’ll need a plug nearby. Both do a cracking job of removing limescale, so it really comes down to where you’re putting it and how much tech you want.
Is it a bit of a faff to keep the salt topped up?
Not at all. Once it’s installed, the only thing you really need to do is keep an eye on the salt levels. Depending on how much water your household uses, you’ll probably find yourself topping it up once or twice a month. Most people find block salt the easiest to handle because it’s not messy and you just drop a couple of blocks in when they look low. It’s a very small price to pay for never having to scrub limescale off your shower screen again.
